THE OTTERBOX DEFENDER CASE FOR IPHONE 5
A renowned accessory manufacturer for many years, Otterbox is not unknown to you who we follow regularly. We test every year their new production adapted to the last iPhone and we started the series this week with the hull version Commuter, that is to read here.
But the iPhone 5 also has the right to barrage and we continue this discovery of the 2012 collection with hard, tough even since it is the Defender protection, the most robust is the subject of this review.
Far from the hull ultra light, transparent and cheap seen in this test a few days ago, it is a case, thick, colorful and leaving almost nothing guess of the iPhone 5 that we could try . So we warn immediately, the goal is neither lightness nor finesse with this type of hull (obviously of course) is protection for either sport or for off-road trades.

Several elements constitute this protection: a rigid plastic shell, which opens and closes with clips, a rubber part more rigid than the previous models and a belt clip for transport.
The installation is very easy even if it is not the style of hull that one will remove and will give twice a day.

So the iPhone slips into the rigid plastic part. The back will be in contact with a rigid foam insert that will avoid any scratches and avoids any movement inside.
The two parts of the case then close on the iPhone. The screen is protected by a transparent plastic screen.
In order to allow falling resistance, the casing then enters an additional rubber part. The placement is easy and the rubber, very rigid is a pleasant touch, not at all a gum aspect as was the case on the oldest models of Otterbox. Great improvement on this side!
The screen is protected by a totally transparent plastic film. So much the better, we avoid the blunder of the Defender iPad protection that we had been able to test here and that completely spoiled the screen Retina.
Once the case set up, it obviously appears as huge compared to the naked iPhone 5. On the other hand, the grip is very nice, the perfect finish (no burr) and the touch pleasant, neither slippery nor sticky like rubber.
The touch of the screen is not at all altered by the plastic film which on the other hand is very reassuring to use to avoid scratches. Note that the edge of the screen is beveled so that it is possible to touch the corners and edges of the screen without difficulty. This is not the case for all thick cases and this is very important to check before purchasing.
The holes necessary for access to all functions are present: for the camera, for the speakers, the microphones which will therefore not be protected. Caution: the case is not waterproof.
Buttons side: they are fully functional although under rubber protection, only remark, it is sometimes difficult to know if we pressed. Protections are provided and lift up for access to the switch of the silent mode as well as 'To the Lightning sync socket and the headphones.
Finally, the coquetry of this case: the apple remains visible on the back via a "porthole", but it is protected by a transparent film.
The belt clip allows the hull to be stored easily, it hangs securely and the fastening pivots by notches, to adapt to a vertical or horizontal port of the machine. When it is in place, the screen can be turned towards the case of the cienture clip and thus completely protected from shocks.
Once again, the quality of production and the protection proposed for the iPhone meets the expectations of a "historical" manufacturer and originally specialized in resistant products (waterproof cases in particular). This type of hull has its own uses: sport, nature and field trades and in these cases, the well protected iPhone remains 100% usable and pleasant in hand, you leave quiet and it is the objective!
